020. Short Description
Needle-punched fabric for protection of the roof membrane and retaining storm water.
070. Product Description
Diadem VLU-300 is a thermally-hardened, non-woven, needle punched fleece, intended to protect the waterproof membrane and retain storm water. The fibers are punched to form a network that maintains dimensional stability. The geotextile is resistant to bitumen and biological and chemical environments typically found in soils, and has limited resistance to UV degradation. Install on top of the root barrier layer or on root resistant waterproofing.
080. Application
The main functions of VLU geotextiles are mechanical protection of the waterproof membrane, and retaining a small portion of storm water runoff.
090. Frequently Asked Questions
- How high should this layer be drawn up over the waterproofing on vertical surfaces?
VLU materials should fully cover the waterproof membrane. On vertical surfaces where the membrane is left exposed, the manufacturer recommends securing VLU by mechanical means and covering the material with flashing.
- How long can the products be stored outside exposed to sunlight?
VLU geotextiles are UV stabilized, however it is not recommended to store or leave them exposed to sunlight for more than 4 weeks. If the covering of the rolls deteriorates over time, consider rewrapping or an alternate storage method that will prevent exposure.
- Does a VLU layer need to be attached to the layer below it?
No, but if left exposed it should be weighted against potential wind uplift.
- Are VLU geotextiles root-resistant?
No, roots are meant to grow through the layers of the system. By intertwining in this way, the roots strengthen the entire system and over time mature root growth helps maintain the stability of the system.
